Foundation Phase Courses

INTRODUCING SCIENCE TO CHILDREN - Young children, like adults, live in a world where scientific knowledge plays a central role. Research that argues for the importance of science literacy and the need to apply it to daily life has been reported often. Many everyday activities can be analysed for their natural science characteristics. Examples are gardening, cooking, recycling, map reading, comprehending the daily weather, inventing drugs for healing, or writing a computer program. Dehaene, a cognitive neuroscientist, makes the observation about how scientific thinking refines language meaning. Many children in South Africa do not encounter science instruction in the early grades, possibly because the curriculum limits science learning to only one of the ‘Life Skills’ topics in the curriculum and teachers seem to minimise early science learning opportunities. Many children in the foundation phase continue to utilise their early (naïve) conceptions of science phenomena and do not learn to see and experience their world scientifically.

Primary Science Resources to provide teachers with a wealth of ideas to engage and capture children's imagination. Join Xperiland today and have full access to all our science online resources. Xperiland provide teachers with a wealth of ideas to engage and capture children's imagination. This page provides an area where resources are collected together around areas of the primary science curriculum.

Xperiland's programs are mostly applied as an Extramural activity. Here children experienced the fun way of discovering the science behind our amazing world.  Xperiland explore the need for fun science activities, children exploring a world of science.  We have structured programs for each age group up to Grade 7. If you want us to be part of your child's school, feel welcome to email our online proposal to your headmaster, and we will arrange to meet with him or her.

Science is not only fun it is the building blocks of many cognitive patterns every child should be expose to.  Science should be a day to day part of each and every child.  When you train a child to believe that Science is just another fun way to explore, you are creating humans to look beyond the obvious. Discovering our world in a fun way!

Xperiland is here to partner with you in your Science adventure.

I founded Xperiland in 2011 after I resigned as a teacher. I taught Mathematics, Physical Science and Life Sciences for the FET phase (Grade 10 – 12). As a teacher, I realised that we need to do more practical experiments while teaching, so that the learners have a better understanding of the concept being taught. I decided to offer learners a chance to do the experiments “hands on” in the class. The only vehicle at that stage was to offer the classes as an extra mural- or co-curricular activity. I was overwhelmed by the response to the classes and did not even realised the need was so big. The classes are focused on enrichment and definitely not something to replace science teaching in the schools. The other focus is to use things in and around the house to do the experiments. Xperiland want to teach children that Science is all around us and not confined in a laboratory. We want to encourage the learners to make a plan, to better a design and to think! Our motto is: Failure is a motivation to try again!  We have to make mistakes in life because that is how we learn. Mistakes are also a proof that we are trying something new. Mistakes many times lead to wonderful and extraordinary discoveries! Some of our most enjoyable and favorite experiments were born out of trying to achieve something totally different! The reason I love doing experiments is because I learn everyday! I learn from great Scientists, I learn by making new plans, I learn to explain the concepts in an understandable way...... but most of all I have learned to look deep into our students’ eyes and see the amazing creativity and treasures that are waiting to be unlocked soon!

Xperiland has over the past decade manage to acquire the best Xperi Presenters. They are all known for their passion for science and an inherit need to develop a nation that loves science. Xperi Presenters all undergo practical and hands on training in order to empower each child they interact with. Most of our Xperi Presenters are trained teachers by profession and had their fair share of children not being exposed to the wondrous of science or the limited resources to assist them in discovery why science truly is one way to expand the world of our children!
